Another injectable filler option that is offered by Dr. Julie Sofer in her Center for Cosmetic Surgery is JUVEDERM® Injectable Gel.  From the creators of BOTOX® Cosmetic, JUVEDERM® Injectable Gel has been designed to restore the youthful skin that has been diminished by age and other skin changes.

This injectable gel filler, also known as a dermal filler, has been FDA approved.  JUVEDERM® Injectable Gel is made of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in your skin that helps to add volume and hydration.

How does JUVEDERM® Injectable Gel work?

As a non-surgical procedure, Dr. Sofer will gently ease JUVEDERM® Injectable Gel under the skin into the mid to deep dermis of the face to instantly restore your skin’s volume and smooth away facial wrinkles and folds, “smile lines”, or “parentheses”  (nasolabial folds – the creases that run from the bottom of your nose to the corners of your mouth).  Unlike many collagen-based dermal fillers, JUVEDERM® Injectable Gel provides a smooth, natural, noticeable look and feel.

What are the best uses of JUVEDERM®?

There are 3 different types of JUVEDERM® Injectable Gels and Dr. Sofer will discuss which areas will bring the best results to your face.  The most common areas where JUVEDERM® Injectable Gel is used are:

  • Lips
  • Nasolabial folds (the lines just lateral to the mouth/nose)
  • “Marionette lines” (the lines just below the lip corners)
  • Tear trough (area along the orbital rim)
  • Cheeks

What are the Benefits of JUVEDERM® Injectable Gel?

Juvederm
JUVEDERM® Injectable Gelprovides a smoother, more natural-looking appearance than some of its more rigid fillers because of its pliant gel consistency.  According to Dr. Sofer, another advantage to using JUVEDERM®Injectable Gel is it may last longer than collagen fillers.  JUVEDERM® Injectable Gel shows improved appearance for six to nine months.

Restylane® & Restylane-L®

The manufacturer of the Restylane® products developed several different formulas to address aging concerns of the face. Dr. Julie Sofer is pleased to offer all of the options in her office to meet the needs of her patients.

What are Restylane® and Restylane-L® injectable gels?

Restylane LogoProducts in the Restylane family add volume and fullness to the skin to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds). Restylane®, Restylane-L® or Restylane® Silk can also add fullness and definition to lips in patients over 21 years, providing natural-looking results with just one treatment.

How does the Restylane® family of products work?

Restylane® works immediately by adding volume to smooth away wrinkles. A clear gel formulation of hyaluronic acid, Restylane® is specifically formulated to act like your body’s own hyaluronic acid, and eventually breaks down naturally.

Treatment volume should be limited to 6.0 mL in wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds, and limited to 1.5 mL per lip (Restylane®, Restylane-L®, and Restylane® Silk only), as greater amounts significantly increase moderate and severe injection site reactions. If a volume of more than 3 mL total is needed to achieve optimal correction for lip enhancement, a follow-up treatment session is recommended.

Restylane-L®

Like Restylane®, Restylane-L® can also be used to add volume and fullness to the skin to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds). But, by combining lidocaine with Restylane®, Restylane-L® can help reduce discomfort during and after treatment.

In clinical studies evaluating the Restylane® family of products in laugh lines (nasolabial folds):

  • 72% of patients reported significantly less pain during treatment with Restylane-L® Restylane®
  • Patients continued to experience less discomfort for up to one hour after treatment

Restylane-L®: Feel the difference with less discomfort*

*When compared to Restylane®

After treatment, you might have some swelling, redness, pain, bruising, or tenderness. These are typically mild in severity and normally last less than 7 days in nasolabial folds and less than 14 – 18 days in lips. Swelling may be more likely in patients under 36 years, and bruising may be more likely in patients over 35 years.

Restylane-L® and Restylane® Silk should not be used by anyone with a known allergy to lidocaine.

During your consultation with Dr. Julie Sofer she can determine which is the best product for you. If you desire to renew and add more fullness in smile lines and lips, we recommend you contact Dr. Sofer at 248-721-9545. Call her today.

Restylane® Silk

Designed specifically for lips and the lines around them

Restylane SilkAmong the numerous dermal (facial) fillers, Restlyane® Silk is especially designed for smoothing wrinkles and lines around the lips. Restylane® Silk has recently been approved for release in the United States! It is the first and only FDA-approved product specifically designed for subtle lip enhancement and the smoothing of wrinkles and lines around the mouth in patients over 21 years of age.

How does Restylane® Silk work?

As with the other members of the Restylane® family, Restylane® Silk is a clear gel formulation of hyaluronic acid — a sugar that is naturally present in your skin. Restylane® Silk’s unique particle gel formula, along with an ultrafine needle designed for improved accuracy, helps give you softer, more precise results — just what you need for a natural-looking smile.

What makes Restylane® Silk different from other Restylane® products?

Like other areas of the face, the lips and skin surrounding the mouth show signs of aging as an individual gets older. This often results in lip thinning, lost shape and an increase in vertical lines above the lip.

Restylane® Silk is designed specifically to provide natural-looking results in these areas. That’s why it’s made of smaller, smoother particles than those used in other Restylane® products.

In a clinical study of patients treated with Restylane® Silk vs. no treatment, clinical investigators reported:

  • 77% of patients treated with Restylane® Silk showed at least a one-point improvement in lip fullness (measured on a 5-point scale) eight weeks after treatment.
  • 59% of patients treated with Restylane® Silk maintained lip fullness six months after treatment

Is Resylane® Silk the answer for me?

Check back to see the natural-looking difference Restylane Silk can make in your smile. Of course, treatment results may vary. Dr. Sofer will be providing more details.

We recommend you contact our office today to schedule a personalized consultation if you feel your lips are showing your age. Call 248-721-9545 today!

Scupltra® Aesthetic

A number of Dr. Sofer’s patients suffer a loss of facial fat from beneath the skin, a condition otherwise known as lipoatrophy. The loss of fat in your face can lead to sunken cheeks, hollow eyes, and other indentations. Dr. Julie Sofer’s Center for Cosmetic Surgery, PC in Mid-Michigan is pleased to introduce Sculptra® Aesthetic.

Sculptra® Aesthetic is a collagen stimulator exclusively designed to add volume to your face and correct the facial fat loss by plumping up the skin and restoring volume. Sculptra® Aesthetic also smoothes out, fills in, and decreases the appearance of wrinkles and facial scars.

What is Sculptra® Aesthetic composed of?

Sculptra® Aesthetic is composed of poly-L-lactic acid, a synthetic material. Because it is not made from human or animal sources, Sculptra® Aesthetic does not require a skin test. The poly-L-lactic acid in Sculptra® Aesthetic stimulates your own body’s collagen production—the building blocks to fuller, more youthful looking skin. Sculptra® Aesthetic doesn’t yield immediate results. Rather, the effects appear gradually over a period of a few months.

How is Sculptra® Aesthetic administered?

Dr. Sofer will usually recommend several injections into your deep dermis. A topical numbing medication may be administered prior to the treatment to help with any discomfort. Typically, our Sculptra® Aesthetic patients require three to six treatments, spaced about four weeks apart, to see the desired results.

Side effects from the use of Sculptra® Aesthetic may include the appearance of small bumps under the skin, bleeding, tenderness or discomfort, redness, bruising or swelling at the injection site.

Am I a candidate for Sculptra® Aesthetic?

SculptraDr. Sofer’s Scupltra® Aesthetic patients are typically looking to treat:

  • Deep lines extending from the nose to the corners of the mouth (nasolabial folds or smile lines)
  • Lines extending downwards from the corners of the mouth (marionette lines)
  • Hollows or depressions in the skin, such as sunken cheeks
  • Chin wrinkles

Dr. Sofer advises her patients that Scupltra® Aesthetic is not indicated for use in the lips, the periorbital area, or any other area of the face outside the nasolabial region.

If the possibility of a fuller, more youthful-looking face is intriguing, contact Dr. Julie Sofer to learn more about Scupltra® Aesthetic and whether the treatment is right for you.

Our staff will be happy to schedule a personalized appointment to assess how Scupltra® Aesthetic might remove the signs of aging from your face.

Dr. Sofer and her staff regularly work with men and women throughout Mid-Michigan to reduce the signs of aging.
